Marissa Shephard facing new charge

A young woman, facing a murder charge here, is now facing an assault charge involving a correctional officer.

Marissa June Shephard was in court in Miramichi yesterday charged with assaulting a guard at the New Brunswick Women’s Correctional Centre  July 28. The case was adjourned until November 28th to give her lawyer more time to go over the evidence.

Shephard is in custody awaiting trial on first-degree murder and arson charges next year in Baylie Wylie’s death. Her preliminary hearing is set for March.

Impaired driving

Seven people were arrested by Codiac RCMP on the weekend for impaired driving at checkstops in Moncton, Dieppe and Riverview.

In all, the Mounties checked 480 vehicles and arrested seven drivers for impaired driving. Three others were issued a seven-day licence suspension for having a blood alcohol level between 0.05 and 0.08.
