New children’s clinic at the Moncton Hospital

The Moncton Hospital has opened a new children’s clinic which should make things a lot nicer for its littlest patients.

The Times and Transcript reports the new pediatric ambulatory care clinic brings together services for chronically ill children into a single, family-friendly treatment centre. It has separate waiting areas away from adult patients. There are colourful pictures, graphics and murals on the walls to make it less scary for the kids who have to come in for cancer treatments and the like.

The upgrades cost 185,000, part of which was paid for through The Friends of The Moncton Hospital foundation.

Math and science assessments not fair?

The District Education Council doesn’t think the new provincial math and science assessment is a fair assessment of students’ knowledge, according to the Times and Transcript.

The council discussed the latest poor results in a closed-door session last night and came out saying they didn’t think it was an accurate reflection of students’ skills. Councillor Ian Hebblethwaite says ether the instruction is poor or the test is poor.

The council decided to send an open letter to the Education Minister Brian kenny outlining their concerns.
