Herring dying in the Bay

Tens of thousands of dead herring keep washing ashore along the shores of St. Mary’s Bay…and now elsewhere.

The first sightings were two weeks ago on beachesĀ  on St. Marys Bay. Now dead fish are turning up in Annapolis Basin and Bear River.

Biology professor Shawn Craik says the fish could be dying of a virus, pollution, parasites or a poisonous algae bloom…they’re waiting on lab tests.

Air Miles cancels plans for expiry dates on points

You still may be able to fly south for a winter vacation after all.

Air Miles has changed its mind on putting a time limit on points. The reward program is cancelling plans that would have seen collectors lose any miles not used within five years. There are 11 million active Air Miles collectors. Some welcomed the news but others are angry because they’ve already cashed out their old points in anticipation of losing them.
