Herring dying in the Bay

Tens of thousands of dead herring keep washing ashore along the shores of St. Mary’s Bay…and now elsewhere.

The first sightings were two weeks ago on beachesĀ  on St. Marys Bay. Now dead fish are turning up in Annapolis Basin and Bear River.

Biology professor Shawn Craik says the fish could be dying of a virus, pollution, parasites or a poisonous algae bloom…they’re waiting on lab tests.
