Man in court on standoff charges

A 38 year old man will be in court today on a number of charges after a standoff with police Friday in Fairview.

It was 17 hours before crisis negotiators could talk the man into giving up peacefully after he barricaded himself in a Tattoo Shop on Ashdale Avenue.  Police went there to pick the man up for allegedly breaching a court order. He pulled out a knife and the police backed off.

B&E could prove unhealthy for perp

Police are asking the public for help in finding a suspect who may have been exposed to asbestos during a break in at a former elementary school on the South Shore.

RCMP got a call about the B & E at the former Gold River-Western Shore School building Thursday. Police say it’s possible the person responsible was exposed to asbestos in the building, that’s been unoccupied since 2013.
