New name in Sydney

The Mi’kmaq Women’s Resource Centre in Sydney has a new name, according to the Cape Breton Post.

A ceremony was held yesterday to rename the centre to honour Jane Paul, a 33 year old mother; who passed away in March.  She was a strong advocate for the year old centre since it opened in response to the police crackdown on prostitution in Sydney and a local Mi’kmaq woman who went missing.

Highway 125 work

They’re back at that rutted section of Highway 125 fixing the latest ruts in the pavement.

A 6 kilometre section of the highway outside North Sydney was just repaved in October last year after complaints the ruts were causing serious accidents.  CBC reports the ruts are back, and so are road crews trying to fix them.  There’ll be more done on the highway in the spring.
