The province has maintained a surplus in the second forecast 2016-17 budget update. Minister Randy Delorey says that projects to be $12.1 million, though it’s down $5 million from budget day’s net position. Yarmouth ferry tourism making less money than spent on to this point
The Yarmouth ferry has so far cost the province more than it’s seen in tourism spending. Tourism Nova Scotia says $62.8 million has been spent since the ferry’s revival, but visitors who took it here spent about $52 million. Part of the provincial spend was startup cost, and hotel occupancy did go up 57% in southwest Nova Scotia.
