Grand Etang turbine comes tumblin’ down

One of the wind turbines at Grand Etang snapped in half in the high winds Tuesday night into yesterday morning.  Nova Scotia Power is investigating why.

No one was at the site at the time and nobody was hurt.  Peak wind gusts at the Grand Etang weather station reached peaks of over 164kph yesterday morning.

The 660 kilowatt turbine was erected in 2002.

CBRM debate

Debate at City Hall these days is around a city charter for CBRM, or lack of debate.

The proposed charter is expected to be introduced in the spring sitting of the legislature, but some council members are upset they haven’t had a chance to debate its contents yet.  They told the Local Xpress they got a two page document three weeks ago which hasn’t been made public and haven’t had a chance to discuss it.

Councillor Kendra Coombes says a two-page document was given to councillors last month and contained some information but no context no detail.
