Sentencing in child exploitation case

A former teacher and church youth group leader in the Kennebecasis Valley and Sussex areas is going to prison for three and a half years.

The Telegraph-Journal reports 34 year old Ryan Hachey of Rothesay was sentenced yesterday by Judge Thomas Christie who called his crimes an “affront to decency on so many levels”.

Hachey pleaded guilty in November to two counts of sexual exploitation dating back nearly 10 years involving two youths.

Disappointment over Moosehead cancelling waterfront brewery

Plans are moving ahead on the proposed waterfront development project despite the loss of the Moosehead craft brewery. Moosehead decided setting up a small brewery on the waterfront with a brew pub was not financially feasible.

Kent MacIntyre, general manager of Saint John Waterfront Development Corporation, told the Telegraph-Journal the proposed brewery wasn’t really part of the proposed multi-million development but would have been adjacant to it and a benefit. MacIntyre isn’t saying much about the proposal because of a confidentiality agreement with the developer at the former Coast Guard site.
