Jane Paul Mi’kmaq Women’s Resource Centre grant

The Jane Paul Mi’kmaq Women’s Resource Centre for Indigenous women is getting a $40,000 grant.

Volunteer coordinator Helen marshall says the money from the province is coming at a crucial time because they are limited to two part time staff.  She’d like to see a full time social worker.  The Minister in charge of the status of women Joanne Bernard recognized the need for the centre but couldn’t commit to ongoing funding.

Donkin Mine work

They’re digging out coal from the Donkin Mine again.

Kameron Collieries has announced it has initiated coal production at the mine after receiving all approvals and permits from the provincial government.  Kameron and the province are still working on details to build a private road to haul the coal to the port for shipment overseas to minimize the impact on the community.
