Forest fire season is underway.

Anyone igniting a Category 1 fire should ensure burning is allowed in that area. This can be done by calling the toll-free burn line or visiting the Department of Energy and Resource Development website.

Category 2, 3 and 4 fires need a written permit, with applications available at the department’s district offices.

The provincial NDP leadership race is about to get a candidate.

Jennifer McKenzie has scheduled a new conference this morning where she is expected to announce. McKenzie finished third in the last federal  election running for the New Democrats in the riding of Fundy Royal.

McKenzie is a resident of St. Martin’s and formerly lived in Ottawa where she was chair of Ottawa’s school board for four terms.
