Moncton setting up immigration summitt

The City of Moncton will be hosting an Immigration Summitt May 29 and 30.

Moncton as well as Dieppe, Riverview and key stakeholders will discuss ways to improve and influence immigration to this region and come up with a strategy. Greater Moncton’s population growth has been strong in recent years due to international immigration but those newcomers remain under represented and the city wants to find ways to fix that.

Business protests increase in Workers Comp premiums

The chambers of commerce in the province’s largest cities have launched a letter writing campaign against increases in Workers Compensation premiums, according to the Daily Gleaner.

Officials from the chambers representing businesses in Moncton, Saint John and Fredericton say premiums are up 33% this year with indications there could be an even bigger hike next year.

Krista Ross, head of the Fredericton chamber, issued a news release saying this is an issue that affects businesses in every industry and every part of the province. The chambers are encouraging not only businesses but individuals to speak out against the increases.
