Bill introduced to penalize countries for human rights abuses

Ottawa is going to crack down on countries with terrible human rights records.

Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland introduced legislation last night to expand international sanctions against gross human rights violators.  The bill is similiar to laws passed in other countries in honour of Russian whistleblower Sergei Magnitsky, who died in prison after accussing Russian officials of a $230 million tax fraud.

Push on to change transgender restrictions on airlines

The Federal NDP have joined with the transgender community to urge the Trudeau Government to change what they call discriminatory travel regulations.

A federal rule prohibits airlines from transporting anyone who does not appear to be of the gender indicated on their identification.  The New Democrats have been asking for changes for years and Trudeau expressed support before he became Prime Minister.
