Fredericton cabbie guilty of sexual assault

Fredericton taxi driver Bahman Babakhani has been found guilty of sexually assaulting one woman who got into his cab…but not guilty of sexually assaulting another. The charges relate to incidents on two consecutive days last September involving women, aged 19 and 20.

A sentencing hearing will be held in three months.

Sexual crimes review

Justice and Public Safety Minister Denis Landry has received preliminary reports from several police chiefs as part of a review of how sexual crime complaints are handled. Landry asked each police chief to review cases that had been closed as unfounded from 2010 to 2014.

He says the government will determine if there are issues common to police forces and assess whether any followup is required by the province or Ottawa.
