Kudos for St. Andrews

Residents expect Saint Andrews by the Sea to be busier than usual this summer.

Travel writers for USA Today have made it the top destination in Canada for Americans to visit…beating out places like Banff, Vancouver, Quebec.

Mayor Doug Naish welcomed the news saying it’ll be great for tourism….but maybe a little too great. He says there are only 1,800 residents in the village and he told CTV he’s concerned tens of thousands of tourists will show up on the same day. He says preparations will have to be made.

Some business owners say they have already noticed an increase in tourist traffic this year.

BanningĀ  junk food from school cafeterias could boost students’ health.

UNB Researcher Philip Leonard says banning junk food in schools could encourage kids to choose healthier options. He found students who faced junk food bans in their schools were on average two pounds lighter than those who didn’t after five years. He says even that slight difference shows such bans can have a positive effect in the fight against childhood obesity.
