School food review

Some people have complained about the quality of food being served in school cafeterias and the Education Minister has heard them.

Brian Kenny says there will be a review of the healthy eating and nutrition guide, according to the Telegraph-Journal.

The Education Department got complaints after it was learned several schools were serving slush puppies. They are 99% apple juice with food colouring added…and some were concerned about it being a very processed food as well as with the commercialization with the name “Slush Puppy”.

Nurse practitioners gain more responsibility

The province is giving nurse practitioners more authority in the health-care system.

Proposed amendments would allow nurse practitioners to admit patients to the Extra-Mural Program and use diagnostic services in health-care facilities for those patients. The changes would also allow nurse practitioners to record the cause of death on a death certificate.
