Misha, Sasha and Zahkar moving to Ontario

The three tiger cubs at the Magnetic Hill zoo will be moving….so you only have till the end of the month to see them before they pack their bags.

Zoo manager Bruce Dougan told the Times and Transcript Misha, Sasha and Zahkar , who were born in June, are old enough now to leave their parents. Unlike Lions, tigers are a solitary species. The trio will be heading back to the zoo near Barrie Ontario where their parents came from.

Alik and Anya came to Moncton as one year olds and successfully bred so Elmvale Zoo will get their offspring and look for new homes for the siblings in other zoos.

UdeM prof gets money for Alzheimer’s research

A Universite de Moncton professor is getting a $225,000 grant to research Alzheimer’s disease.

Étienne Hébert Chatelain, in the biology department, has been studying how mitochondria figures in the onset and development of Alzheimer’s.
Many neurological diseases are associated with defects in Mitochondrial functions. Chatelain is getting funding from the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada, the Brain Canada Foundation and the New Brunswick Health Research Foundation to continue his work.
