Moncton budget

Moncton City Council got a look at the proposed budget at yesterday meeting.

Chief Financial Officer John Martin says the city can expect less in the way of equalization money from the provincial government this year because of strong growth in tax revenues. But he also said that growth also means they should be able to hold the tax rate steady.

City changing water meters

The city is now mailing out notices to homeowners about replacing aging water meters. It will be installing 18,000 new meters and water meter transmitting units saying the upgrade in technology will save money in the long term.

There’s no cost to property owners or tenants. Water Meter Technicians will deliver contact information so the resident can schedule an appointment for the changeover.
