Missing man’s body found

The body of a missing Moncton man was found on the banks of the Petitcodiac River yesterday.

25 year old Stephane Leger was found near Assomption and Vaughan Harvey Boulevards. RCMP searched the area after someone called to report they had seen a man matching Leger’s description near the river the night he went missing.

An autopsy will determine the cause of death…but the Mounties do not suspect foul play.

Homicide rate

New Brunswick had the highest murder rate of the Atlantic provinces last year, according to figures released yesterday by Statistics Canada.

The 2015 homicide rate in the province was 1.46 per 100,000 population. All four atlantic provinces were below the national rate.

Saint John had a homicide rate of 2.36 homicides per 100,000 people. Moncton’s was 1.28.
