Canada’s brightest star at the Olympics, swimming sensation Penny Oleksiak has been named the 2016 Canadian athlete of the year because of her four medal performance. The 16 year old added four more medals at the short-course world championship this month.
The provincial Office of the Child and Youth Advocate has released its eighth annual State of the Child Report. Negatives include the rate of hospitalization for mental issues being high, only half who seek mental health services get them within 30 days, and the percentage of youth in pre-trial detention is considerably higher than elsewhere in Canada. Norman Bossé does say there’s a concentrated effort to address needs.
