Moncton reviewing fluoridation issue

The City of Moncton is revisting the flouridation issue. It voted to remove flouride from the water supply in 2011 with a clause to reconsider it after five years.

Dentists have complained they’ve seen an increase in tooth decay since…especially in children…and they want the floride back.

A meeting has been scheduled for January 30th when special interest groups will give their presentations to council. Individuals can submit their thoughts online at moncton.ca/fluoride until February 6. Then council will set up another public meeting in a few weeks.

Council approves budget including raises

Moncton City Council approved next year’s budgets at its meeting yesterday…including its raises.

Councillor Bryan Butler tried to delay the decision on the raises but was voted down by the majority. The raises to almost $84,000 a year for the Mayor and over $37,000 for councillors was recommended by a citizen-led committee. It’ll add about $100,000 to the budget next year.

There’ll be no increase in the city’s tax rate of $1.6497 per hundred dollars of assessed value.
