Kentville meth bust

A convenience store in Kentville will be open again today despite a busy weekend.

Police found a crystal meth lab in a basement apartment of the North End Market on Mee Road Friday night after the store owners reported a funny smell.  Police evacuated the building because of the toxic and explosive nature of the chemicals used to make the drug.  They arrested a 22 year old man who will be in court today.

That wasn’t the end of the troubles at the store.  During the cleanup a window was left open, and pipes froze.  Then there was a small fire yesterday  as they were using a blow torch to try to thaw out the pipes.  But the store was open again later.

East Hants changes

East Hants will now be in charge of the Burntcoat Head Park lighthouse.  It is taking over from the non-profit organization that has been operating it and other assets at the site of the world’s highest tides for several years.

The Municipality’se department of parks, recreation and culture will now conduct the operations of Burntcoat Head Park as of March 22nd.

But some residents of the area told the Kings County News they think the whole situation stinks, and don’t like the way the municipality has treated the volunteer organization that ran the park.
