A family of five escaped unhurt when their home went up in flames near Canning yesterday evening.

The Red Cross is helping the couple and their three children with emergency lodging and supplies as well as some toys for the kids.  The house on Weaver Road appears to be repairable.

Kings County Council still hasn’t approved its operating budget for this year.  It was expected that would be done yesterday.  While approving the capital budget, some councillors wanted more time to consider the operating budget and several grant requests.

So property owners will have to wait to see what happens to their tax rates.
