Digby rescue

A personal locator beacon was a big factor that led emergency responders to four people stranded late last month in Digby County.

Cpl. Jennifer Clarke of the Nova Scotia RCMP said four female kayakers became distressed, possibly due to a lack of daylight.

The beacon provided police with the name and GPS coordinates of the owner.

Clarke added that the beacon device proved invaluable because they use satellite, rather than cellular; signals.

Kings County vote

Kings County community members were supposed to vote late last month whether they agreed with the proposed fire services area rate or not.

Now, that vote has been pushed ahead to June.

Kings County Mayor Peter Muttart said that they would delay the vote to ensure that any questions and concerns were dealt with first.

He added that people have made it clear that they’re not confident in the call numbers that have been provided to Kings County from the fire department that serves this area, which is a fire department in Hants County.
