Provincial funding announced before the election call will help Meadowview and Hantsport deal with the risk of flooding.

Taxpayers are providing $243,000 for the Flood Risk Infrastructure Investment Program.

That will cover 50 per cent of the cost of various projects, Hantsport and Meadowview will cover the other 50 per cent.

Noel Facey, a pastor in Little River; and Fred Trask, the owner of the Ocean Trollers fish plant; want a new wharf for Little River.

For now, Trask has expanded his own private wharf for more boats to use.

The Small Craft Harbour division of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans owns nearly all small-craft-harbour wharves and it’s their responsibility to make repairs or build a new one.

The current wharf is 60 years old and is in pretty rough shape.
