Stormy weather

It’s the third storm in less than a week…and thankfully it shouldn’t be as bad as monday and tuesday.

There won’t be nearly as much snow in this one….15 cms…and it’s moving through much more quickly. but the winds are strong again with gusts to 80kph.

There’s still a problem because of all the snow that’s piled up already. Crews have been trying to widen streets and sidewalks as much as they can but are running out of space especially in older parts of town with narrow streets and buildings close together.

Teachers and the premier

Premier Stephen McNeil says it’s time to act after three tentative agreements have been rejected by the province’s teachers. That’s why his government is imposing a contract through legislation, saying he has tried to approach the labour dispute with an open mind and an open heart.

McNeil’s comments to the Halifax Chamber of Commerce came after the Teachers union said it would stage a one day strike tomorrow to protest the legislation which it called unconstitutional.

There was another all night session at Province Houise last night as opposition parties try to delay the bill’s passage as long as possible…but in the end the Liberal majority will pass it.
