Medical Examiner leaves open possible inquiry into triple murder-suicide

The medical examiner now says he will consider family members’ views before deciding whether to order a public inquiry into the death of Lionel Desmond who shot his wife, daughter and mother and then himself in Upper Big Tracadie.

Dr. Matthew Bowes said if he concludes a hospital review of Desmond’s treatment was either incomplete or unlikely to bring about changes, he may call for a judicial inquiry. Earlier this week, the Justice Department said Bowes had ruled out a Fatalities Inquiry.

Prison time for Halifax sailor for sexual assault

A Halifax-area sailor has been imprisoned for three years after sexually assaulting a woman he met on Facebook.

A judge ruled Leading Seaman Paul Simpson assaulted the woman on their second date in February 2014. The Judge’s ruling said after some consensual activity, she told him she did not want him to touch her, but he ignored her.
