The U-S fleet’s in town, including a huge aircraft carrier.

The USS Dwight D. Eisenhower is anchored in the harbour and its crew is getting shore leave. There are other ships in the fleet as well tied up at the Dockyard.  Rear Admiral Jim Malloy says the visit is an acknowledgment of the American military’s respect and its joint celebration for Canada 150.

Arrests at First Nations protest on Parliament Hill

10 demonstrators were arrested on Parliament Hill yesterday evening during an Indigenous rally which organizers say was to kick off a four-day reoccupation ceremony to counter Canada’s 150th anniversary celebrations.

Demonstrators carried wooden poles to erect a large teepee, but police blocked the group just inside the gates. 10 people were detained briefly before being released on condition they stay off Parliament Hill for six months. But others later erected a large teepee in front of the Parliament buildings.
