NS Legislature rises for fall

The fall sitting of the Nova Scotia Legislature closed today.  Opposition leader Jamie Baillie says the McNeil Liberals are rushing out to avoid scrutiny over mishandling the teachers’ dispute, and the Richmond County expense scandal.  The Tories are also pointing out an “incredibly light” agenda with only 11 bills put out, most considered housekeeping.

Teachers strike

Education Minister Karen Casey said the gathering of the Partnership on Systemic Working Conditions will go ahead even without teachers.  The NSTU pulled them out of today’s meeting, wanting a postponement because Stephen McNeil says they’ll only discuss working conditions in this fashion, not through bargaining.
