Cowardly home invasion

There was a violent home invasion last night in the west end.

A man knocked on the door of a residence on Pennington Street. When the 85 year old woman answered, the man punched her in the face a couple of times knocking her down, then pulling her out the door demanding money. She screamed for help and the suspect fled.

The woman was treated for minor cuts and bruises.

NSGEU and government break off talks until New Year

The NSGEU says it and the province remain far apart on terms of a new contract, so they are adjourning the negotiations until after the holidays.

Union President Jason MacLean says the union wants the McNeil Government to return to the table then with a more reasonable position.

The Finance Department said, in an email to CBC, it feels talks this week were productive discussions and is hopeful a deal can be reached when they get back to the bargaining table in the New Year.
