Vice Chief of Defence Staff suspended. Why?

The second highest ranking military officer in the country has been suspended from duty…and DND is not saying why.

Vice Chief of Defence staff Mark Norman, who used to head the Navy, has been relieved of military duties by Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Jonathan Vance. But neither he nor the government is giving the reasons for such a rare move for such a senior officer. Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan would only say he supports the decision.

Teachers’ talks update

The Teachers union and the government went back to bargain with the help of a concilliator yesterday. Both sides agreed to a media blackout on the talks.

Meanwhile, parents are getting increasingly frustrated. One father, Robert Patenaude, told CBC he’s considering suing if his daughter’s school trip to Europe is cancelled because of the work to rule. He says Jessica has been saving for a year to pay the $3,500 for the trip. He’s talking to other parents to see if they would consider suing…but he doesn’t know who… the school, the government or the union.
