The Dean of Law at the Université de Moncton has been selected to the position of Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues at the United Nations’ Human Rights Council.
Fernand de Varennes, a native of Saint-Paul is the first Acadian and person from the Maritime Provinces to be appointed to what is known as a “special procedures mandate” in the international human rights protection organization. He will be examining, supervising, advising and reporting on minority situations, including to the U-N General Assembly.
