NB fire fighters helping put out BC fires

Firefighters and support staff from New Brunswick and soke other provinces are arriving in B-C to help relieve fire crews battling wildfires that have forced more than 14,000 people from their homes now.

They’re joining about a thousand B-C firefighters who have been working around the clock on the devestating fires that have destroyed about 400 square kilometres of forest land. The smoke has also caused air quality advisories across the border in Alberta.

Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale says B-C has requested 3,000 cots and blankets from federal stockpiles, as well as military aircraft support such as helicopters to airlift people to safety.
