An 89 year old Baddeck man is crediting an observant teen and his dog for saving his life.
Lloyd Stone is still recovering in hospital after the incident in March. He told CBC he was cross-country skiing near Big Baddeck Road and slipped. He crushed his hip and couldn’t get up. He was laying there in the woods for about three hours when he saw a light and then felt a dog licking his face.
17 year old Calvin Kuchta was driving home that night when he spotted Stone’s car parked by the road. He thought he’d better check it out as he knew Stone and thought it was weird he was out skiing in the dark. Then Arik, a retired RCMP dog, found Stone and he was rescued.
