Impaired, vehicle theft charges

A 19-year-old North Sydney man will be in Sydney Provincial Court today facing charges for a stolen vehicle and impaired driving, after an early morning motor vehicle rollover.

Cape Breton Regional Police responded to Musgraves Lane at approximately 3:00 AM, where a Dodge Caravan had struck a power pole and flipped over in front of the water plant. On route to the scene, officers noted a male walking along the sidewalk on Regent Street and while talking to him a witness to the rollover approached them. The man, who showed signs of intoxication, was identified as the driver of the vehicle involved and arrested. He did not suffer any major injuries, but was transported by EHS to Cape Breton Regional Hospital for assessment.

The rollover caused significant damage to the vehicle and broke a power pole; a second pole also caught fire. The North Sydney Fire Department and Nova Scotia Power responded for repairs.

Police confirmed the vehicle was registered to someone other than the suspect driver, who will be charged with: Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Taking a Motor Vehicle without Consent, Impaired Driving and 3 Breaches.
