Fundy Royal MP Alaina Lockhart and Sussex-Fundy-St. Martins MLA Bruce Northrup recently took part in the “Soil Your Undies” campaign at Kier Miller’s farm in Sussex Corner.
It was run by the Soil Conservation Council of Canada.
People dug a hole in the soil and buried a new pair of white, 100 per cent cotton briefs.
The spot was marked with a red flag and the underwear needs to be left for around two months.
When the underwear is dug up in June, they should find nothing left but the elastic waistband.
An official with the New Brunswick Crop and Soil Association says that the idea is that the soil organisms eat the cotton, which means the organisms in the soil are alive and well.
