For at least another year, Cumberland public libraries will remain open.
The Nova Scotia public library system recently got an emergency, one-time grant from the Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage.
The 52 thousand dollar share will let libraries in Cumberland County run without a deficit in 2017-2018.
However, without a long-term commitment from the government those funds will not help in the next fiscal year.
It is feared Cumberland County could lose one of its branches or hours could be cut.
