Jail sentence for man in accident

A Saint-Louis-de-Kent man has been sentenced to 8 months in jail in connection with a fatal accident in Elsibogtog last fall.

33 year old William Maxime Martin pleaded guilty earlier to two counts of driving while prohibited, theft, fleeing police and breaching a court order.  The judge finally accepted a joint recommendation of the crown and defence yesterday of 8 months after twice postponing his decision. He said he didn’t think 8 months was enough but had to accept the joint recommendation. Martin has been in custody since February.

He hit a man who was lying on the road after an earlier accident…but was not charged with causing the man’s death. The prosecutor told court Martin was not impaired, nor driving dangerously and didn’t try to leave the scene. He stopped after feeling his vehicle hit something.
