There’s been an abrupt about face by the Gallant Government on political donations. It now plans to ban all union and corporate donations to political parties as of June 1st.
Just last week, the government said phasing out the donations wouldn’t be considered until after next fall’s election…but then it surprised the opposition yesterday during a legislative committee meeting on those reforms. The Conservatives introduced an amendment to completely ban corporate and union donations and the Liberals agreed to the change.
