According to Fisheries and Oceans Canada, the Miramichi striper population continued to thrive in 2016.
About 318 thousand spawners were recorded last year, an increase of 20 thousand in 2015.
However, not all anglers are pleased.
Some feel that the abundance of striped bass in the river system is the biggest threat to Miramichi’s salmon run.
Stripers are known to prey on salmon smolts.
