Council is considering whether to do a heavy garbage pickup after all next month.
It had planned to cut the annual pickup of appliances furniture and so on because of the expense. It cost CBRM almost a quarter million dollars last fall to do a pickup of heavy items after the Thanksgiving flood. And it initially figured it could pass on the pickup this spring.
However, councillors have been getting a lot of calls from constituents wanting it reinstated. So they voted unanimously to do the pickup, if there’s money available in the budget at the end of this morning.
Councillor George MacDonald of Glace Bay expressed concerns if there’s no pickup this heavy items will be dumped by the sides of roads and in the woods.
