Man convicted of sexually assaulting a sleeping woman

A Halifax man has been convicted of sexually assaulting a sleeping woman.

Robert Shawn Burton told the court he and the woman were engaged in consensual foreplay but when intercourse began, he stopped when she asked what he was doing. The complainant testified there was no consent to any sex acts saying she was asleep.

The judge said Burton’s version of events was not credible, based on text messages Burton sent to the victim afterwards.
