Lumber delegation in Washington

Natural Resources Minister Lloyd Hines and Trade Minister Michel Samson are in Washington with a delegation to lobby for an exemption for Nova Scotia on any duties on softwood lumber.

Samson says they are stressing the importance of maintaining Nova Scotia’s exclusion from tariffs or quotas because lumber here is harvested primarily from private woodlots. Elsewhere in Canada it comes mainly from Crown land which the U-S considers an unfair subsidy.
