Another hiccup for Energy East

Another glitch for the Energy east Pipeline. A Senate report recommends extending the Energy East Pipeline to the Strait of Canso instead of Saint John.

The Halifax Chronicle Herald reports the Senate’s Transport and Communications Committee recommends the National Energy Board examine Point Tupper as the end point. TransCanada Corp, which is building the pipeline, says it’s not interested.

Two Nova Scotia senators say you cannot ship heavy oil out of Saint John without going through Nova Scotia waters so that province should share in the benefits because it’s taking the risk. They also say it would alleviate heavy tanker traffic in the ecologically sensitive Bay of Fundy.
