A Senate report recommends extending the Energy East Pipeline through to the Strait of Canso instead of Saint John where an export terminal is planned.
The Chronicle Herald reports the Senate’s Transport and Communications Committee recommends the National Energy Board examine Point Tupper as the terminus. TransCanada Corp, which is building the pipeline, says it’s not interested.
Two Nova Scotia senators say you cannot ship heavy oil out of Saint John without going through Nova Scotia waters so this province should share in the benefits because it’s taking the risk. They also say it would alleviate heavy tanker traffic in the ecologically sensitive Bay of Fundy.
