Nursing homes are fighting back against what they feel is a power grab by the Gallant Government.
The government has decided to fold the assets of 60 nonprofit homes into the province’s books. Auditor General Kim MacPherson told a legislature committee it’s not intended to infringe on the normal day-to-day operations of these nursing homes and non-profit boards. It’s just an accounting thing.
Michael Keating, executive director of the New Brunswick Association of Nursing Homes, however, told the Telegraph-Journal the homes feel angry, hurt and confused by what they see as a power grab that threatens their independence and control. They’re preparing to challenge the government in court.
