French Immersion requires new teachers

The Anglophone East School District is getting ready to hire a lot of new French teachers in the next year for the greater Moncton area because of the introduction of Grade 1 French immersion.

Superintendant Greg Ingersoll told the Times and Transcript they’re looking to hire dozens of French teachers but it could also mean some English term teachers, whose contracts expire in June, won’t be rehired.

Ingersoll says there are 65-70 Grade 1 classes in the district with at least half of them anticipated to go French immersion next year.
