The first tidal power project is now pumping as much as two megawatts of electricity into the provincial grid.
The Cape Sharp turbine is North America’s first and the McNeil Government calls the test project, a turning point for Canada’s renewable energy sector.
The five storey test turbine is anchored off Parrsboro. A second turbine by Cape Sharp will go in the water next year.
There was also a protest on the road leading to the FORCE site as fishermen, Mi’kmaq, scientists and community members made their feelings known to the dignitaries. They’re concerned about effects on sealife.
