Man sentenced in Valentine’s Day mass murder plot

A 22 year old man, described in court as a cheerleader for a plan to kill shoppers at the Halifax Shopping Centre, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his part in the mass murder plot.

Randall Steven Shepherd pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder and will get credit for time already served in custody since his arrested in February last year.

Crown lawyer Shauna MacDonald said Shepherd planned to kill himself before the attack and while he wasn’t the main plotter, he knew of the plan and participated in the conspiracy with two other people.

An American woman, Lindsay Souvannarath, still faces trial on the charges next year. 19 year old James Gamble committed suicide before he could be arrested.
