Clarification for coroners in assisted-dying cases

The Gallant Government plans to introduce legislation that would ensure coroners’ investigations are not mandatory in cases of medically- assisted dying.

Justice and Public Safety Minister Denis Landry says modernization of the Coroner’s Act will mean grieving families, already facing a difficult time, won’t be forced to undergo unnecessary investigations.  Medically assisted deaths would not be reported to the coroner unless there are irregularities or special circumstances.
